Would your community like to consider tent encampments in remote places, or plan for homeless settings that can make all feel better about homeless accommodations?
With homelessness on the rise in Vermont, communities should consider planning to make affordable options available for homeless in your vicinity. Teens, Veterans, mentally challenged, sudden job loss or recovering from illness and drug rehab residents are some of the reasons these needs can surface.
Youth Tiny Home Village
After nearly two years of planning, a colorful tiny home village in Oakland, CA, for unhoused youth is about to open on a one acre lot. These units have a 70sqft living space, a loft for a sleeping space, and a closet for storage. This project will provide housing for 100 of the 900 homeless youth in an area.
Low-Cost Tiny Villages
Twenty-five 250-400 square foot units are being built, each on their own lot and foundation.
Low income formerly homeless, senior citizens, college students and a few staff will rent the homes in Cass, MI. After 7 years they can be eligible to own it. |
Tiny Homes in LA
Formerly homeless women are now living in tiny house villages in Seattle, WA. Even just having a space that they can shut a door and feel safe and clean makes a world of difference. The women share their stories in this extraordinary short video produced by filmmaker Steve Rowland.
A Backyard 10x10 Home
The Backyard Homes Project is a "one-stop shop" Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) program that enables the average homeowner to become a provider of affordable housing. These units have worked for community groups (churches and other municapal groups) to provide a space.
